Blue Mountain Resort closing Sunday, citing safety concerns

Saturday, January 24, 2026
PALMERTON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Blue Mountain Resort in Carbon County announced on social media that the slopes will be closed on Sunday.

Winter sports enthusiasts are not happy with the news. They posted countless replies wondering why a ski resort would ever close because of snow.

A few hours after the announcement, the ski resort explained its decision.

"We do not have lodging here at Blue Mountain. If we have a guest who gets here early, maybe when the storm wasn't that bad, and it picks up in intensity later in the day, now they're stranded. We have nowhere to lodge these folks, and we will not put our guests in that situation," the resort said.

Blue Mountain will reopen at noon on Monday.

The resort said it's opening later than normal to give crews time to clear the parking lots.
