BUENA VISTA TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- The body of a missing swimmer has been found in Atlantic County.

Officials said a man disappeared Sunday night while in a quarry near the 600 block of Cains Mill Road in Buena Vista Township.

The Collings Lakes Fire Department said rescue crews located and recovered the victim's body on Monday.

Authorities have not released the victim's identity.

In the wake of the tragedy, fire officials renewed warnings about the dangers of swimming in quarries.

"It can not be stressed enough how dangerous quarries and blue holes like this one are, and under no circumstances should anyone be swimming in them. They look inviting, but just under the surface are many dangers people are not aware of. Even one tragedy is one too many, and we all must do our part in preventing them," the department said in a statement.

The incident remains under investigation.
