PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A car went airborne and smashed through the window of a home after a crash in the Frankford section of Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Oxford Avenue, Horrocks Street and Kenwyn Street.

According to police, the driver of a light-colored Toyota had stopped at a stop sign and was continuing westbound on Oxford Avenue when a speeding dark-colored Honda ran the stop sign and collided with the Toyota.

The impact sent the Honda airborne, crashing into the bay window of a home on Kenwyn Street. The facade of the two-story house collapsed onto the vehicle, leaving only the tail end exposed.

The driver of the Honda fled the scene on foot and remains at large. Police say the vehicle was reported stolen in early September.

Inside the home were Cheri Clayton and her two children, who have lived there for 12 years.

"I come down my steps, get out the door and I see the gentleman come down and walk down my block and down my driveway," Clayton said. "I didn't know a car was through my window. I would not come and look at it. I just did not want to see a car
through my window."

Amazingly, the driver of the Honda survived and walked away from the crash.

"The neighbors were out here, and they were saying, 'Don't go nowhere. You shouldn't be leaving.' And he just kept walking," Clayton recalled.

The driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The Department of Licenses and Inspections has been notified due to the structural damage to the home.
