Cardinal Czerny named inaugural recipient of Villanova's Pope Leo XIV Sustainability Medal

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Villanova University announced Cardinal Michael Czerny as the recipient of the inaugural Pope Leo Sustainability Medal.

Villanova University President Reverend Peter Donohue made the announcement during an event Monday morning at the Vatican.

The award recognizes sustainability as both an environmental and human responsibility.

Czerny is currently based in Rome.

The medal will be officially presented to him during the 2026 Villanova University International Sustainability Conference.



The conference is being held in Rome, Italy, in October.
