Cashing in on old toys in your attic

Wednesday, September 2, 2015
If there are old toys collecting dust in your attic or basement, you could be collecting lots of cash.

From old figurines to what we now lovingly call vintage video games, there's money to be made from the nostalgia of your childhood.

And here's how.

"Toys are actually a better investment than the stock market. Because toys go up in value," says Jordan Hembrough.

Hembrough calls himself the toy hunter.

He helped Dave Parano clean out his parent's garage in New Jersey to find the gems from the 70s that could earn the best return on that toy investment.

Some of the big ticket items include anything having to do with "Star Wars", My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Lego and Batman.

Hembrough says any franchise that has stood the test of time always sells well.

"The jackpot! You've got all these beautiful Disney figurines that were bought at the park. You've got a beautiful beautiful set - that's worth about $500 dollars," he tells Parano.

Hembrough estimates Parano will make about $2,000 dollars from his collection.

Of course Hembrough reminds sellers that toys that are still in the box always bring in bigger bucks, along with any set with all of the components and any franchise characters that have since been retired or discontinued.
