Cold front to bring cooler temps during heat wave in Philadelphia region

Updated 1 hour ago
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Get ready for another day of record heat as temperatures once again soar into the 90s.

The stretch of high temperatures marks the first heat wave of the season and the earliest the region has experienced such prolonged heat since 2017.

The extreme heat means people need to continue to stay hydrated and limit time outside.

The heat has forced 57 Philadelphia schools to go virtual since the buildings do not have adequate air conditioning. Early childhood centers located at the affected schools will also move to virtual instruction. All in-person after-school activities, including athletic programs scheduled for Wednesday, have been canceled.

The Upper Darby School District has also shifted to a remote schedule for Wednesday.

A cold front is expected to bring relief ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
