The stars made their way down the red carpet at the film's premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, sharing what fans can expect.
The film's story involves Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts; Chloe Charming, Cinderella's child; and other descendants of Disney heroes and villains.
Kylie Cantrall, who plays Red, said her character is trying to figure out what it means to be seen as a princess.
"She's trying to be better," Cantrall said. "But definitely, in this new timeline, people look up to her as a princess. She's trying to define what that means for her and figure out how she can be a leader."
The movie features plenty of music. But Malia Baker, who plays Chloe, said it also carries a message.
"I feel like there's [sic] a lot of lessons that only I've learned, but I'm excited to pass down for generations so that they can feel like they're seen, represented and heard," Baker said.
Rita Ora also returns as the Queen of Hearts. She said she was excited to sing with Brandy Norwood, who is back as Cinderella.
"It's been on my BINGO card list since, I don't know, the beginning of time?" Ora said. "It's like, who doesn't want to sing with Brandy?"
"Descendants: Wicked Wonderland" also introduces new characters, including Red's sister, Pink.
"Pink is very bubbly, over-the-top, extremely glittery and sparkly. She's just magic," said Liamani Segura, who plays Pink.
Leonardo Nam, who portrays Maddox Hatter, added, "You do look through the eyes of magic when you're a kid. And this franchise really does offer that to the world and I'm so grateful to be a part of it."
Kiara Romero, who plays Hazel Hook, said the franchise also plays with ideas about what makes a villain.
"I think what's fun about 'Descendants' is that villains aren't so villainous, that's what you realize," she said. "And they think they're villainous but, yeah, not really."
"Descendants: Wicked Wonderland" premieres Thursday, July 16 on Disney Channel and begins streaming Friday on Disney+.
Disney is the parent company of the Disney Channel, Disney+ and this station.
