SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Co-Owner Alfitri Sonie of D'Jakarta Cafe runs the restaurant with her mother and brother, sharing dishes from their hometown Jakarta.

Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, and the family-run business is sharing its culture through each dish, all from Alfirtri's mother's recipes.

They offer popular street food, chicken satay, Alfitiri says, you'll find everywhere in Indonesia.

They were also the first to bring popular street-food dessert ropang to Philadelphia. That's toasted bread layered with butter, Nutella, coconut spread, and garnished with cheese.

Alfitri came to Philadelphia 25 years ago with her family and opened D'Jakarta Cafe in 2018, drawing on prior experience working in her mother's restaurant in Jakarta.

The restaurant is filled with pictures, murals, and items that remind them of home. The family says they look forward to sharing Indonesian culture and traditions with Philadelphia.
