It happened around 3:08 a.m. in the 3100 block of Bambrey Street.
Police say a 56-year-old woman came out of her home after the suspect in this case broke her window.
A physical and verbal confrontation ensued, and police say that's when the victim's dog began to attack the suspect.
The person who broke the window shot the dog in the side and leg.
The gunman then fled the scene.
The dog was being treated for its injuries at Philadelphia Animal Specialty Emergency.
No weapons have been recovered and no arrests have been made.

This shooting of a dog comes on the heels of at least six other incidents in the past seven weeks. However, in the other cases, it was Philadelphia police officers who shot dogs that were attacking people or other animals.

In this case, police were not involved in the shooting and it's not clear yet if the dispute that led to the gunfire had to do with a dog attack or something else.
