The U.S. Department of Justice is suing the state of New Jersey, over what it calls the Garden State's "unconstitutional attempt" to regulate federal law enforcement officers.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, alleges the "Law Enforcement Officer Protection Act" threatens the safety of federal officers.

Acting New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport released a statement, saying in part, that the law protects both law enforcement and the public by limiting the use of masking.
