According to police, the first shooting happened around 8:15 p.m. near 21st Street and Gratz Street.
Officers found a man who had been shot multiple times and transported him to Temple University Hospital. He remains in critical condition.
Investigators recovered about 20 shell casings at the scene.
About 15 minutes later, police responded to a second shooting scene at 24th Street and Elkhart Street, just over a mile away.
Officers found between 25 and 30 shell casings but no victim.
Police later learned that a 23-year-old man had been driven to Temple University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back. He was listed in stable condition.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance video from both locations as they work to determine whether the shootings are related.
"At this time, we don't have anything conclusive. However, given the proximity and time in which these two shootings occurred, we are taking into account that there might be some connection," said Chief Inspector D.F. Pace of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police have not identified a motive or any suspects, and no arrests have been made.
Investigators have stopped a vehicle of interest in the first shooting. In the second case, the private vehicle connected to the shooting is being held at the hospital as part of the investigation.
