American doctor sickened by Ebola virus works with Jenkintown mission organization

JENKINTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Action News has learned that an American doctor who has been sickened with the Ebola virus has ties to the Delaware Valley.

Dr. Peter Stafford works with the missions organization Serge, based in Jenkintown.



Dr. Stafford was exposed while treating patients in the democratic republic of Congo, where an Ebola outbreak has killed nearly 120 people.

The CDC says the American who tested positive was being moved to Germany for care, and stressed that the risk to the U.S. general public remains low.
