Drexel Univ. residence hall chemical leak declared under control after evacuations

UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- First responders tell Action News a chemical leak that forced evacuations at a residential building on the campus of Drexel University has been declared under control.

Firefighters and a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) team responded at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to Millennium Hall in the 200 block of North 34th Street.

Crews were said to be checking out the 11th floor of the building, and as of 8:45 a.m. had isolated the leak.

It was believed to be freon leaking from an air conditioning unit.

At least some residents were evacuated as a precaution while crews made repairs.



No one was injured in the incident.

Evacuations have been ordered at a residence hall on the campus of Drexel Univ. due to a chemical leak.
