The market, located on North DuPont Highway in New Castle, has become a homecoming of sorts for the Aguilar-Garcia family, who blend their grocery business with a passion for music.
"It's really special to us because it's right behind the apartments. When we first came to Mexico, we moved into those apartments," said Jose Luis Aguilar-Garcia.
Aguilar-Garcia works in the music industry as an artist developer for Mexican bands. Inspired by NPR's Tiny Desk concerts, he combined his family's supermarket with his passion for music to create Mercadito Sessions at Fiesta Fresh Market.
The series has gained an online following and offers a local stage for international performers.
"A lot of artists don't necessarily tour in Delaware, but they still have an audience. It's cool to connect with them," he said.
Mercadito Sessions is expanding. On March 20, English language bands will be performing in-store.
