The championship match has become one of the most sought-after events in sports, driven by the possibility of a historic appearance by Argentina and Lionel Messi, as well as the popularity of other potential finalists.
"It's either Argentina with Messi's last match ever, probably in the World Cup," said Gilad Zilberman, CEO and co-founder of SeatPick.
Zilberman said the potential matchup is a major factor behind the intense demand.
"So this is going to be a big match. And obviously, Spain is a big national team that has a ton of popularity," he said.
SeatPick, which aggregates ticket listings from multiple platforms, found that fans can expect to pay an average of about $14,000 for a ticket to the final.
The most expensive ticket currently listed is priced at just over $200,000.
Those prices stand in sharp contrast to the 2022 World Cup final, when tickets ranged from $600 to $1,600.
Zilberman described the current market as "the perfect storm," citing several factors contributing to the surge in prices.
"Obviously, you have more money in terms of just purchasing power in the US," he said. He also pointed to the prospect of Messi appearing in his final World Cup.
"And then obviously you have Messi, last World Cup," Zilberman said.
Another factor, he said, is the event's initial pricing structure.
"And also, the baseline of the price of FIFA, what they established as a baseline was very high. It was probably, I think it was like 2.5 higher than the initial price of the last World Cup," Zilberman said.
Data analyzed by Hard Rock Bet found that the average price of a World Cup final ticket exceeds the combined average ticket prices for the Super Bowl, NBA Finals and World Series, underscoring the unprecedented demand for the match at MetLife Stadium.
