The couple safely escaped the three-story home, but the family tells Action News their three cats died in the fire. They also shared they have lived in the home since 2013.
"I've been through a house fire so I can only imagine what they're going through," Christopher Campbell, a Delanco Township resident.
Fire officials said crews responded around 6 p.m. and found heavy flames coming from the roof of the home.
"It's an old balloon frame construction house so it got into the walls and it ran on us," said Lester Abrams, Deputy Chief of the Delanco Fire Department. "The first interior crews found unsafe conditions and we had to pull them out."
Nearly 100 first responders from several departments were dispatched to the scene. Officials said no firefighters were injured.
"The crews found the stairwell collapsed and that hindered them getting to the second floor," Abrams said.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
