PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The future of Center City is strong, according to a new report.

The Center City District's annual review shows that the heart of Philadelphia is growing in a number of key metrics.

It also lays out some policy issues that could hinder further growth.

"From Delaware Avenue to the Bellwether District, there are cranes rising in places that a generation ago, we didn't think was possible," said Center City District CEO Prema Katari Gupta.

City storefronts are filling up and population continues to grow. There is no shortage of arts and history.

"Center City is for everyone. Its murals and sculptures make free outdoor museums," said Clint Randall, Center City District VP of Economic Development.

Nightlife is up, and the City of Brotherly Love is booming.

"Center City is the heart of the city. It's really important to the entire region," said Gupta. "It's strong, but we think it can be stronger."

Officials also highlighted that there are 309,000 jobs that are all reachable by public transit.

"This is what makes Center City categorically different from every other job hub in the region," Gupta added.

While officials continue to highlight the city's growth, work to improve is far from over.

"We're doubling down on that walkability, with the update we're doing with the wayfinding system, clean up alleys and - of course - claim more space for pedestrians," Randall said.

While there are a lot of things to highlight, some of the areas they touched on to improve are tax reform, SEPTA funding and homelessness.
