Gas prices hit 4-year low; average falls below $3 per gallon

Tuesday, December 2, 2025
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- AAA says gas prices around the country have hit a four-year low, though prices remain a little higher in some parts of our area.

The national average price for a gallon of gas hit $2.99 on Tuesday, the first time it dipped below $3 a gallon since May 2021.

Locally, most drivers are still paying more, with the average cost in Pennsylvania at $3.21 per gallon.

The average in New Jersey is $3.01 per gallon.

In Delaware, drivers are paying $2.96 per gallon, the lowest in our area.

Gas prices are falling because crude oil prices have moved below $60 per barrel, gasoline demand has fallen off, and the seasonal switch over to less expensive winter blend gasoline has happened, AAA says.

In addition, AAA says the hurricane season did not have an impact on gas prices this year.
