"The Health Institute at Hardy...is part of the rebrand going from a comprehensive high school into one that's health oriented. It's funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, and it's creating just a lot of exciting opportunities for our kids," said Justin Meltzer, Hardy Williams High School Principal.
The program is partnered with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Students receive hands-on experience to discover their talents in the field.
"In 12th grade, our students take an accelerated course where they study for a certified medical assistant... if they pass the certification exam, then they're able to move on to an externship with opportunities to work for CHOP," said Meltzer.
"A big part of my 'why' for coming here every day is to help our students realize their post-secondary dreams, and making sure that they have access to opportunities. If you can change even one child's life, there's the ability to change many more down the road as they become moms and dads," he continued.
