Heroic Philadelphia teen honored for helping save driver's life

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It's not every day that you meet a teen like 17-year-old Jaheim Warner.

He was honored on Friday by the Philadelphia police and fire departments for answering the call to do something extraordinary and help a woman in need.

It was March 26, when the junior at Tacony Academy Charter High School was walking home from a baseball game and saw a driver in distress on Tulip Street.

"I see a white truck slowly moving through the intersection, with people trying to stop the truck. I took a pipe and I hit the window a couple of times and it broke," he said. "I squeezed through the little tiny window in the back, and she was still seizing, so I told her I was going to stay with her and I wasn't going to leave her and I waited until the ambulance came."

The recognition is just the first step in what he expects will be a long career helping others.

"Tomorrow I'm showing up for the Philadelphia Fire Explorers for their CPR training at 0800. I learned that number today," said Warner.

The family of the driver came to Warner's home to thank him for his quick actions.

He was also awarded a check by the Newman Family Foundation to put towards training, hoping one day to become a Philadelphia firefighter.
