A few weeks ago, Our Closet in Your Neighborhood hosted a pop-up clothing giveaway in Kensington, just one of many ways they're helping the community.
This winter alone, they're providing thousands of coats to those in need.

Shauna Ekezie, Program Director, Our Closet in Your Neighborhood says, "It's just an amazing program because it gives folks what they need without jumping through hoops or barriers. It simply gives them access to basic needs."

A key part of their mission is tied to the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run.
Clothing runners leave behind, sweatshirts, sneakers, and more, is collected and given a second life.

"It's sweatshirts, sneakers, all types of things. Helping individuals who may not have a car get where they're going with comfortable footwear, and also providing clothing for everyday needs."

And it's not just about volume.

"We're usually getting thousands and thousands of pounds of donations."

It's also about care. Every item is laundered and sorted, with only quality pieces making it to their events.

And when people arrive, they're welcomed by volunteers, like retired doctor Hallam Hurt, who make the experience feel personal.

Dr. Hallam Hurt, Volunteer says, "I love talking to them - saying, 'Do you like color? Let's look for your color.'"

"They come in and have a really dignified shopping experience, able to choose the items they like and want."

And for volunteers, the reward is just as powerful.

"It really is a joy to be a part of giving back."
