Immigration and Customs Enforcement is no longer moving forward with plans to convert seven warehouses into detention facilities, according to the New York Times.
That includes warehouses it bought in Berks and Morris counties.
ICE is expected to transfer the properties it bought for $700 million to other federal agencies or sell them outright.
Supporters of the previous plan say it's meant to help enforce the government's immigration policies. Opponents have been closely tracking the developments.
Officials with the agency say they are focused on removing the worst of the worst and added, "DHS is moving swiftly to utilize EXISTING detention space with our state and county partners," WFMZ reported.
"Governor Shapiro came through and put the brakes on so we could see what was going on, and we're feeling good," said Richard Cattermole with ICE OUT UPPER BERN. "We gotta keep our eyes open."
