NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Montgomery County man is behind bars after authorities say he raped a woman in her 90s and broke into the homes of several other women last year.

John Vernon Gray, 22, of Telford, was arrested on Saturday, on charges including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, burglary and other related offenses.

Authorities say four women, ages 46 and over 90, were victimized during the overnight hours in Towamencin Township.

Investigators said the first incident happened on May 10, 2025, when a 79-year-old woman woke up around 2:25 a.m. to Gray entering her bedroom on Dock Drive. He fled when the woman screamed, authorities said.

About an hour later, Gray allegedly entered an elderly woman's home in the Dock Woods community.

According to a criminal complaint, the woman awoke to find Gray standing in her bedroom. When she asked, "What do you want?" Gray allegedly responded, "I want you." He is accused of raping the woman before leaving in the early morning hours.

Authorities said the victim told police she believed Gray entered through an unlocked front door.

Months later, on Nov. 8, 2025, Gray allegedly broke into two additional homes.

Around 3 a.m., police responded after a 72-year-old woman reported waking to a man in her bedroom on Dock Drive. Gray attempted to lift her nightgown but ran when she screamed, authorities said.

Thirty minutes later, Gray allegedly entered a home on Crosshill Court in Towamencin Township through a rear sliding glass door. Police said he began touching a 46-year-old woman before she fled and screamed for her husband.

After a thorough investigation, including examining phone records, conducting searches and linking Gray's DNA to the crime scenes, he was taken into custody. He is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2026.
