CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- The City of Camden suspended the junkyard license of a troubled recycling plant.

This includes ceasing shredding operations, according to officials.

The EMR facility at Front Street and Atlantic Avenue is currently at the center of an environmental lawsuit, after at least a dozen fires have broken out since 2020.

The lawsuit calls the recurring fires an ongoing public nuisance that has severely harmed the health and well-being of Camden residents.

The most recent fire broke out late last month.

The suspension will be re-evaluated after 30 days.

Action News has reached out to EMR but has not received a response.
