HATBORO, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Montgomery County man is facing assault charges following an incident at a day care where he worked.

According to a criminal complaint, Thomas Coleman is accused of physically assaulting a child at a KinderCare facility on Warminster Road in Hatboro in March.

Investigators said a witness reported seeing Coleman forcefully place the child into a chair and push it into a desk. The complaint also alleges Coleman then slammed the child onto the carpet after the child fell.

Authorities said the child suffered bruising to the neck and back.

Coleman was arrested last week and is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault.

A KinderCare spokesperson released the following statement to Action News:

"The safety and well-being of every child in our care is our highest priority. When concerns about a now-former employee were brought to our attention in late March, we immediately removed him from the classroom, reported the matter to the appropriate authorities, and fully cooperated with their investigation. Because his conduct did not meet our standards or our commitment to children, we terminated his employment that same month. Our center directors are focused on reinforcing our child safety protocols during regular scheduled and unscheduled classroom observations, during which they provide teachers with guidance and feedback on their teaching style and classroom management practices."
