The incident happened Wednesday afternoon on the 4100 block of Heritage Lane in Lehigh Township.
According to state police, officers encountered 49-year-old Sean Deibert at the home. Authorities said a Taser was deployed after officers entered the residence, and Deibert was subsequently shot by an officer.
According to WFMZ, investigators said Deibert's 71-year-old mother reported that her son choked her, threw her to the ground and got on top of her during the incident.
Investigators said Deibert then went outside, where he allegedly threatened a neighbor. His mother was able to escape to a nearby home and call 911, according to authorities.
Deibert was taken to an area hospital for treatment following the shooting.
He is charged with strangulation, simple assault and terroristic threats.
State police have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the trooper-involved shooting.
