PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Some 250 volunteers, including Miss America delegates from across the country, formed a living Liberty Bell on Independence Mall in Philadelphia's Old City on Thursday morning in the lead-up to the country's 250th anniversary.

"I'm going to be part of the Liberty Bell- so exciting. Let freedom ring," said volunteer Tari Carlson.

"It's nice seeing the people in the city come together. I think we are more alike than we are different," said volunteer Chris Labovitz of Tacony.

"Philadelphians from throughout the city coming together to celebrate the 250th, that's what it's all about," said Vince Stango, interim president and CEO of the National Constitution Center.

There are events taking place all day including a red wagon parade and a drone show over Independence Mall.

"I would tell folks this is a great time to come down and enjoy what the city has," said volunteer Tracey Howard of Mount Airy.

"Well to be here at the most historic place, birthplace of America- to be a part of this is so wonderful. We're just so happy to be here," said volunteer Lisa Fisher of Northeast Philadelphia.

This celebration takes place on July 2, the day founding father John Adams thought should be Independence Day.

"The Declaration of Independence was voted on, on July 2nd so that's why he thought it would be the day- signed right over there," said Amy Needle, President and CEO of Historic Philadelphia.

Producer Todd Marcocci directed the volunteers to make sure their flag and pom-pom waving were in unison.

This was a precise process that included a stencil and t-shirts color coordinated with frisbees on the ground.

"When you're standing out here on this grass, our forefathers walked through this grass. And I think it's just an opportunity for everyone to come out and see something unique," said Marcocci.
