PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It was a celebration of local high school theater in Center City on Tuesday night.

The Philadelphia Independence Awards were handed out at the Miller Theater, and two of our local stars will now go on to represent our city at the national Jimmy Awards on Broadway.

39 school productions took part in our local awards ceremony, and 28 awards were handed out, in categories from performers to costumes to choreography to scenic design.

Two performers were also chosen to compete at the prestigious Jimmy Awards on Broadway.

The judges named Scarlett Horonho as the Jimmy Awards Actress nominee.

She won for her role in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812.

She's a student at PALCS Center for Performing and Fine Arts in West Chester.

Her co-star and fellow student Zane Zangwill won a Jimmy Awards Actor nomination for his role in the same musical.

Scarlett and Zane will spend ten days in New York City for an intense program of rehearsals, coaching, and masterclasses with Broadway professionals.

It will culminate with the Jimmy Awards show on June 22nd, where they will make their debut on a Broadway stage at the Minskoff Theatre.

They will then represent Philadelphia and compete for what's lovingly known as the Tony Awards for high school musical theater.
