Man arrested following stabbing incident at Hockessin, Delaware Wawa

HOCKESSIN, Del. (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested following a stabbing incident in Hockessin, Delaware.

Police say officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the Wawa located in the 600 block of Yorklyn Road around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, police say they found the alleged suspect, identified as 36-year-old Matthew Ralston, being restrained by Wawa employees.

According to police, Ralston initially entered the store to make a purchase, but remained in the parking lot after exiting.

A short time later, police say Ralston re-entered the store and allegedly went behind the counter where he pulled a knife and tried to stab an employee.



He then left the knife on the counter and left the store.

According to police, he re-entered again, grabbed the knife and began waving it over his head before leaving.

Police say he then re-entered a fourth time and approached an employee who was calling 911. He then allegedly swung the knife at her, cutting her in the hand.

Other Wawa employees were able to disarm and subdue the suspect until police arrived.

He was taken into custody without incident.



The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
