Police said the 25-year-old victim was discovered around 5:30 p.m. by a Pennsylvania state constable who was providing security services at a nearby shopping center on the 2800 block of Fox Street.
The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Shortly before the victim was found, investigators said a witness reported seeing a fight inside a black Honda SUV in the rear portion of the shopping center parking lot.
According to police, the constable attempted to intervene, but the Honda and a second vehicle sped away from the scene.
Later, officers responded to a report of an abandoned black Honda SUV at a cemetery on the 3200 block of West Clearfield Street in North Philadelphia.
"The ignition was broken and there was a considerable amount of blood," Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said.
Police believe the vehicle is registered to the shooting victim.
Investigators have not determined the circumstances that led to the shooting.
Authorities said no ballistic evidence has been recovered, and no arrests have been made.
