Market Street Bridge to close Monday for 14-month construction project

Updated 3 hours ago
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Market Street Bridge, connecting Center City and University City, is closing to drivers for 14 months as part of a nearly $150 million PennDOT project.

The 94-year-old bridge is getting a major makeover, including a new, protected two-way bike lane.

Drivers aren't the only ones affected.

Six SEPTA bus routes will be detoured in the area, and parking restrictions are already popping up along parts of Chestnut, 23rd and Walnut streets.

Those will be in place until 2028.

The timing is tough, with the closure starting the same day as SEPTA's new bus network changes, and the first day of school for Philadelphia students.

So be sure to give yourself extra time and expect delays.
