NJ paramedic among 5 charged in child sex abuse material investigation

Officials revealed the names of the five men, all of whom were taken into custody after cyber tips led police to investigate.

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Prosecutors in Camden County announced five separate arrests, all related to possession or attempt to distribute child sexual abuse material.

One of them is Jeremy Algarin, 30, of Berlin Borough, who was a paramedic at the time of his arrest. Investigators said they found child sexual abuse material on his Discord account and phone.

He was charged on August 6 with distribution and possession of of child sexual abuse material.

"Totally shocked. (He) Looks out for everybody on the street. Nicest guy in the world," said one of his neighbors.

"He hangs out with the kids, with us, great guy, hard working," said another neighbor, Rachel Pearce. "It's just a shock to hear what he did and endanger himself as well as the kids."



Some neighbors saw police arrest Algarin at his home on August 6. That same day, the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services was notified.

Documents show Algarin has been an EMT since 2013 and a paramedic since 2021. Due to the allegations, both licenses were immediately suspended by the Department of Health.

In a letter to Algarin, the Department said, "The above alleged actions demonstrate not only poor judgment and a lack of trustworthiness, but also pose a threat to vulnerable patients, namely children."

Algarin's most recent employer, Virtua Health, said in a statement, "We are aware of the charges brought against Mr. Algarin. While we do not comment on personnel decisions we can share that he is no longer employed with our organization."

The prosecutor's office said Algarin's pre-indictment conference is scheduled for Oct. 1.



The others charge include the following:

James Nicholas, 33, of Lindenwold, was arrested on August 1. He allegedly used a Kik account to share and possess illegal material. He was charged with distribution and possession with intent to distribute child sexual abuse material.

Warren Magee, 49, of Camden, was arrested on August 2. Police say they found child sexual abuse material on his cell phone. He was charged with possession of the illegal material.
Raekwon Harold, 20, of Lindenwold, was arrested on August 8. Police say they found that he used Instagram and Kik accounts to share and possess child sexual abuse material. He was charged with distribution and possession with intent to distribute.

Jay Curry, 29, of Winslow Township, was arrested on August 19 after originally fleeing police during a home search. Investigators say they found that he used a Kik account to share and possess child sexual abuse material and was additionally charged with obstruction by flight.
