Two men charged in Atlantic City animal cruelty case that resulted in the death of one dog

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police in Atlantic City have charged two men in connection with an animal cruelty case that left one dog dead and another injured. One of the suspects remains at large.

Police report that 22-year-old Aarin Burdine-Moody was seen on surveillance video leaving an apartment in the 1500 block of Baltic Avenue with two dogs on February 5.

They say he left both dogs outside when he went back inside.

One was found dead nearby the next day.

The other was found injured by patrol officers near the 300 block of Rosemont Place. That dog was taken to the Atlantic County Animal Shelter for treatment and is expected to survive.



The incident began with a report of a dog on the loose, prompting a call for officers on February 6.

While patrol officers were responding, they were updated that two dogs were attacking another dog. Video of the attack was posted on social media.

Police tell us the owner of the two attacking dogs was determined to be Clarance Gilliard. They say he was present during the attack and did not intervene.

He was taken into custody on February 10 and is now facing charges including: four counts of animal cruelty, two counts of allowing a canine to run at large and two counts of failure to provide care to a canine.

Burdine-Moody is still wanted on charges including: three counts of animal cruelty, abandonment of a disabled animal resulting in death, animal abandonment, two counts of failure to provide care to a canine and allowing a canine to run at large.
