Investigators believe it was related to someone tracking down a stolen car.
It happened along Waterworks Drive at 2:30 a.m.
Police found a black BMW riddled with bullets and more than 30 spent shell casings at the scene.
Authorities told Action News the owner of a stolen Dodge SRT had tracked the vehicle to that area.
"A lot of what we're seeing are people that are able to track their own vehicle whether it's by placing an AirTag or similar device inside of it, or something that's an app built inside the vehicle itself through GPS tracking," said Sg.t Eric Gripp.
When the owner of the Dodge arrived, he allegedly engaged in a gun battle.
Despite the hail of gunfire, the person driving the stolen muscle car was apparently able to flee the scene with the vehicle.
The BMW was left at the scene with damage.
As the investigation continues, authorities say that being able to track your stolen vehicle does not mean you should take the law into your own hands.
"Call 911. Will get out there. We don't want them confronting somebody who may be armed, may be dangerous, and potentially put in your safety or maybe even your life in harm's way," Gripp said.
No injuries have been reported.
