MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (WPVI) -- The man who was shot and killed Monday evening inside Mill Dam Park in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has been identified.

The victim was identified by family members as 25-year-old Andre Ross.

Officers were called to the Mill Dam Park on Wollner Drive around 5:48 p.m.

The victim was found shot in the back and died at the scene.

The Mount Holly Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide, however, no arrests have been made.

Andre's mother, Latanya Ross, offered a message of forgiveness to the person responsible.

"I wish I could give that boy a hug and tell him, 'I forgive you. It's going to be okay.' And my son is hurt and dead," she said.

Andre lived across the street from the park and may have run into the area in an attempt to escape the bullets.

He leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter.

"He was trying to be a better person and that's what I wanted for him," Latanya said. "He wasn't perfect though, but he was still a child of God."

Less than 24 hours after the shooting, his mother offered grace toward the person who murdered her son.

"I forgive that young boy," she said. "I pray to God that he wakes up and that the devil doesn't get him. I pray that he wakes up and asks for forgiveness before it's too late for him. I'm asking God to be with him, and be with my son as well. And all the other mothers and fathers who lost children."

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office has taken the lead on the investigation.
