New college students being moving in on campuses in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Thousands of new students will arrive to college campuses across Philadelphia this week ahead of the new school year.

Move-ins begin on Tuesday.

More than 1,400 of Temple's newest students, including first years and transfers, come from Philadelphia.

The new students also represent 47 Pennsylvania counties, 43 states and 51 countries across six continents.

First-year students enter Temple with an average high school GPA of 3.46.



More than 2,500 of Temple's incoming students are first-generation college students.

Students at University of Pennsylvania will be greeted by the Ivy League school's president, as well as Sixers mascot, Franklin the Dog, and the Phillie Phanatic.

The Penn Class of 2030 features more than 2,400 students from 76 countries and all 50 states, as well as several U.S. territories.

The class also has 167 first-years from Philadelphia, which is the most at Penn to date.

Villanova is also welcoming new students this week.
