Police say 40-year-old Michal Fantuzzo of Westmoreland County spent more than $246,000 of the nonprofit's money on personal expenses between 2021 and 2024.
The association, based in Bryn Mawr, promotes professional development and access to therapists who assist clients with physical changes, rehabilitation needs, and developmental delays.
According to investigators, the financial problems came to light in 2025, when the new board realized the organization could not pay its bills. They then uncovered what police described as questionable withdrawals from the group's accounts.
Fantuzzo is accused of using the funds to pay off credit card debt and property taxes, as well as to support an extravagant lifestyle.
Police say the spending included a family trip to Disney World, a vacation rental in North Carolina, a country club membership, a limousine rental, and a hot tub installation at his home.
His Facebook profile shows him posing with family members at Disney, though investigators have not confirmed whether that photo corresponds to the trip referenced in the complaint.
Fantuzzo did not respond to phone calls on Monday. Police say he turned himself in on Friday and was released from jail the same day. He faces multiple felony charges.
The Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association declined an interview but issued a written statement, saying in part:
"It was deeply troubling to learn that Mr. Fantuzzo chose to abuse the trust we placed in him with respect to POTA's financial
accounts."
Fantuzzo is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 17.
