PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. (WPVI) -- A woman from North Jersey is calling her dog a hero for saving her life when her home went up in flames.

Aida Kelly's home in West Milford, Passaic County caught fire as she was sleeping Friday morning.

She says her 3-year-old pet poodle named "Squilliam" began barking just before 1:00 a.m.

Initially, she told him to be quiet but then heard the smoke detectors go off.

Kelly says she grabbed the dog and fled the burning home.

The home was destroyed, but thanks to Squilliam's warning, Kelly and her fur-baby are doing just fine.
