"It's wrecked. It's ruined," said Chuck Weiner after seeing the major destruction at his business, Clock Bar, on Germantown Avenue.
"You got that sickening feeling. It's ridiculous," he said.
Weiner shared surveillance video of a man he said entered the bar before 5 p.m. on Tuesday and destroyed it.
The video shows the suspect hurl the register, throw decades-old liquor bottles and food on the floor, and shatter the mirrors behind the bar. Weiner said he also stole money before leaving.
Employees and customers were inside at the time, but no one was hurt.
"He wrecked the place. It's been like this since 1939. I'm the second owner since 1939, and if you look at the ambiance, you can see that," said Weiner.
Weiner believes the same man smashed the windows of Eagle Bar next door around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, as shown in surveillance video. Weiner is the landlord of the building.
James Coley is the general manager of the businesses.
"We don't allow him in, and that was the problem Sunday night," said Coley. "We wouldn't let him in, and that's when he started breaking windows."
Weiner said the suspect broke 25 windows, and it will cost about $35,000 to replace them.
"It's sad because it's unnecessary. No reason," said Coley.
After 36 years in management, Coley has never faced an incident like this. He said now they'll lose business at Clock Bar as they spend the next few weeks, spending thousands of dollars on repairs.
"I just hope we can put the pieces back together and gain people's trust that the place is safe because it's been safe for a long time," said Coley. "We can't just let one individual ruin what we built here."
It's still unclear if both vandalism cases are connected.
