PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia police officer is recovering after being hurt along the Schuylkill Expressway in a late-night crash on Tuesday.

There were early reports that the officer was initially knocked unconscious after the driver struck his motorcycle.

He is said to be in stable condition, but it's unclear at this hour what type of injuries he is dealing with.

The Action Cam arrived at the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m., while the officer was still on the ground, before medics got there.

He could be seen moving a little while first responders prepared him to be put into the ambulance.

We know the officer was on a motorcycle riding with the police department's ATV dirt bike detail when someone driving an SUV struck him.

It happened in the westbound lanes near University Avenue in University City.

Officers who work within the ATV detail are usually seen traveling in groups, wearing helmets and safety gear.

Action News has been told the officer was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Officials said the driver remained on scene.

It's unclear exactly what chain of events led to the crash.
