NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- Leaders from both sides of the Delaware River gathered Wednesday to celebrate two milestones around the connection between them.
Officials from New Jersey and Delaware joined the Delaware River Bay Authority to mark the 75th Anniversary of the First Span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
That span was the sixth largest suspension bridge in the world, when it opened to traffic in 1951.
The group also celebrated the completion of a new $89 Million Ship Collision Protection System - the largest single infrastructure project in the DRBA's history.
