WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPVI) -- A sudden and violent crash on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike left two men hospitalized Monday after a tire flew off a pickup truck and slammed into an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

Kazi Zoha was driving a Range Rover with two friends on a trip to Bethlehem when the tire struck, just minutes into their journey.

"I saw it like flying toward to me. I didn't see it bouncing, I saw it like flying," Zoha told Action News. "It didn't even give me a second to make a decision."

The tire came from a Dodge Ram traveling in the southbound lanes. It hit Zoha's SUV in the northbound lanes, shattering the moonroof and sending glass throughout the vehicle.

"As soon as it hit me, for a second, I was blown away," Zoha said. "There was a lot of glass, the ceiling, the moon roof, everything was all over."

Zoha managed to pull over and quickly realized the severity of the situation. His friend in the back seat was unconscious, and the front passenger was bleeding after the roof collapsed on him.

"When I saw him, that's when I got very, very scared. I said, 'Oh my God,'" Zoha said. "I was in shock, too, screaming, 'I need help, need help, my friend is dying.'"

Medical helicopters transported both passengers to the hospital. Mozammal Hoque, 53, remains in critical condition, while 37-year-old Mahamaudul Hasan is recovering.

Police interviewed the 33-year-old driver of the Dodge Ram and are investigating whether the truck had any recent mechanical work.

"Today I'm hurt, my friend is hurt - could be anyone," Zoha said.
