PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Fans from Paraguay and France gathered across Philadelphia ahead of the city's final World Cup match, which will be played on the Fourth of July as temperatures are expected to remain high.

As Philadelphia prepares to host its last World Cup game, Paraguay supporters said the heat is not a concern.

"Very used to heat, France has to worry," said Sylvia Caballero of Paraguay.

Paraguay fans spent the evening in South Philadelphia as they got ready to cheer on their national team.

"We are here after 16 years of waiting, so we're very happy," Caballero said.

The tournament marks Paraguay's first World Cup appearance since 2010. Fans said advancing this far in the competition is a significant achievement.

"Going to the next phase is more than expected," said Max Salazar of Maryland.

"Share that with my parents; I think I'm most happy for I know they are excited even though they won't actively show it. It's gonna be a challenging game..." added Mark Salazar of Maryland.

The match will take place on Independence Day in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States. FIFA plans to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary during the event. Rehearsals were held Thursday, and singer Idina Menzel is scheduled to perform the national anthem.

Philadelphia artists also are expected to be featured. The Roots and DJ Jazzy Jeff are slated to perform at the match before appearing on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

For French supporters, the game represents both a sporting event and a unique cultural moment.

"It's amazing, obviously the relationship between France and the US, Fourth of July. I think it's going to be a unique experience," said Cyril Triquere of South Philadelphia.

At City Hall, France fans gathered to show their support as they prepared for the match.

"It's fun being together. Make sure France is ready; make sure to bring the noise for the game," said Ben Rush-Gobel of Point Breeze.

"Big nerd for the French, and the 98 World Cup was my thing. I can't believe Philadelphia's able to host the team I've been following; it's incredible," said Elvia Ramirez of Washington, D.C.

France enters the match with two World Cup titles, and supporters spent Thursday evening preparing for what they hope will be a larger celebration on Friday.

"Very happy to have my people coming here celebrating in Philadelphia, birthplace of America," Triquere said.

Fans will be allowed to bring one sealed water bottle to Saturday's match.

There will also be cooling tents set up inside the stadium.

Gates open at 2:00 p.m.; the match is set for 5:00 p.m.
