83-year-old man ID'd as pedestrian killed on Schuylkill Expressway in South Philadelphia, police say

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in South Philadelphia.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. on Monday in the westbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76), near Passyunk Avenue.

Police have identified the victim as 83-year-old John White, of Philadelphia.

They say he was in front of oncoming traffic when he was fatally struck.

The driver of the striking vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.



Traffic was temporarily blocked at Vare Avenue while police investigated. The westbound lanes were reopened around 8:30 a.m.
