PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Governor Josh Shapiro was in South Philadelphia at Vare-Washington Elementary School on Tuesday to highlight new education investments in the 2026-27 state budget.
Shapiro touted a more than $678 million increase in education funding statewide.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is also applauding the budget, which includes more than $157 million for the School District of Philadelphia.
Leaders say the funding will help strengthen classrooms and create more opportunities for students.
