PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Parking Authority is reminding drivers that school zone speed cameras will be active when the new school year begins on Monday, August 24.

The cameras will be active during morning and afternoon school hours.

The initiative is designed to protect students by reducing speeds and the number of crashes.

The cameras are located near four schools in the city.

The PPA will not offer a warning period since the cameras had already been activated.
