PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia District Attorney's office announced a new round of violence prevention grants to dozens of community-based organizations.

More than 40 organizations and nonprofits received grants on Tuesday totaling half a million dollars.

Many of these groups work to provide summer programs and camps for the city's youth.

One of the organizations benefiting is the Allens Lane Art Center in the West Mount Airy section of Philadelphia.

It operates the oldest integrated summer camp in the city.

The center received $10,000 to help families in need.

"These funds will be used for scholarships to help families send their kids to camp, which in summertime will prevent children from getting in trouble and doing things that they shouldn't be doing," said Executive Director Nan Latona.
