Asia Clark recently returned to Philadelphia after attending college in Ohio and is now preparing for her father's funeral.
Emmanuel Oakman, 42, was shot and killed Sunday on the 6200 block of Woodland Avenue, in Southwest Philadelphia.
"He was a great dad," Clark said.
Police said Oakman was shot multiple times at about 7 a.m. Sunday and died later that afternoon.
Authorities confirmed that Oakman was an innocent bystander who was apparently caught in the middle of gunfire.
"For him to go out the way that he did is very unfortunate. He didn't deserve that. He is a father, he's a brother. He's loved by many," Clark said.
Clark said relatives told her that Oakman was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"I was told by my family members that he was caught in the crossfire," she said.
She also said the location of his injuries suggested he was trying to escape the violence.
"Base off of where he was shot at, which was his back, he was trying to flee whoever was shooting," Clark said.
Oakman leaves behind his daughter and his 18-year-old son, Zaire. Family members say he was a loving father who had a sense of humor and wouldn't hesitate to help someone.
Police said they are searching for the person responsible for the shooting.
As she focuses on planning her father's funeral, Clark said she hopes the person responsible is prevented from harming anyone else.
"I hope at some point you learn, but most importantly, I hope you're off the streets so you put no one else at risk again," she said.
