Philadelphia mayor reverses hotel tax plan, seeking additional taxes for short-term rentals

A plan to add an additional tax on hotel lodging in the City of Philadelphia is changing.

Mayor Cherelle Parker's proposed 2% increase will be revised to point .6% percent.

It comes after pushback from the hotel association.

Instead, the mayor is seeking an additional 6% hike on taxes for short-term rentals, like Airbnbs and VRBO.

The money is earmarked to help fund initiatives to address homelessness.



City Council is expected to vote on the mayor's budget next month.
