PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The City of Philadelphia proclaimed May 21st as "Ona Judge Day."
The announcement was made Thursday morning at the Independence Visitors Center in Old City.
Judge was enslaved by George and Martha Washington in the colonial era.
She courageously escaped from the President's House in Philadelphia exactly 230 years ago, on May 21st, 1796.
Officials with the Ona Judge Coalition say they are planning events as part of the nation's 250th birthday to shine a spotlight on Judge.
